History
Wexford began in the 1840's as a crossroads community centred around "The Rising Sun Inn," which was situated on the south-west corner of what is now the Lawrence and Pharmacy Avenue intersection. This popular Inn was owned by Richard Sylvester, who hailed from Wexford County, Ireland.
In 1865, a post office was opened in Sylvester's "Rising Sun Inn." Sylvester named this post office Wexford, which from that time onward, also became the official name of this community.
An historical landmark held over from Wexford's pioneer days is St. Jude's Church, situated on the east side of Victoria Park Avenue, south of Lawrence Avenue. This church was built in 1848 by local farmers. St. Jude's is one of the oldest standing churches in Toronto.
Wexford endured as a quiet farming hamlet until the 1950's, when the present day neighbourhood was developed.

Shopping
Lawrence Avenue is brimming with small shopping plazas that contain a multi-cultural mix of restaurants and food shops. The shopping along Victoria Park Avenue is similar to Lawrence Avenue although on a much smaller scale.
Eglinton Avenue offers a mix of big box stores, family style restaurants, car dealerships, factory outlets, and shopping centres. The Golden Mile shopping mall situated on the north side of Eglinton Avenue east of Victoria Park Avenue was the largest shopping mall in Canada when it opened in 1954. Today this mall is anchored by a large department store and a supermarket, and also includes a handful of smaller retailers and a dental centre.
Eglinton Square, located across the street from the Golden Mile mall, is a community oriented mall that runs a regular "Family Night Club for kids," a "Walk-a-Mall" program, as well as seasonal events and promotions. Eglinton Square is anchored by the Bay department store and a Dominion supermarket.

Recreation
The largest park in this neighbourhood is Wexford Park, which has a baseball diamond, sports fields, a children's playground and plenty of recreational greenspace.
Wexford Collegiate Institute, located at 1176 Pharmacy Avenue, has a gymnasium and indoor pool which host various Toronto Parks and Recreation programs.

Transportation
Bus services along Eglinton, Lawrence, Warden, Pharmacy, and Victoria Park Avenues connect passengers to stations on the Bloor-Danforth and Yonge-University-Spadina subway lines.
Motorists are just a few minutes from the Eglinton and the Lawrence Avenue on-ramps to the Don Valley Parkway and approximately a five minute drive from Highway 401.
